NEW BOOK

The machine is not the first to change. The person is.

LEAN Champions — The Competition with Yourself at Work and in Life.

Why do some improvements last for years while others disappear after only a few weeks?

This book is my answer.

LEAN Champions does not offer ready-made solutions. It shows how people build an environment in which improvement becomes a habit. Through real stories, practical lessons and QR codes, you can follow authentic projects, see their results and experience the atmosphere in which they were achieved.

WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT

Why is this book different?

Most Lean books explain tools. LEAN Champions presents a different way for companies to develop — not through dependence on an external consultant, but through community, real projects and learning from one another. Instead of theory alone, you will find authentic manufacturing stories, practical lessons and QR codes leading to original presentations, videos, photographs and results.

A WAY OF THINKING

A mindset that works anywhere.

The stories come from factories. The lessons are about people.

The stories in LEAN Champions come from authentic manufacturing projects. But the book is not only about manufacturing. It is about how people think, take responsibility, build habits and create sustainable change. That makes it useful to anyone who wants to grow, whether they work in a factory or office or lead a team of their own.

A way of thinking

Turn problems into opportunities for development.

Personal responsibility

Change begins when you stop waiting for someone else to take the first step.

Habits and sustainability

Real change happens when improvement becomes a habit.

Leadership by example

People believe what you do more than what you say.

A LIVING BOOK

Scan. See. Understand.

Real people, real projects, real results.

The QR codes are not an addition to the book; they are part of the story. Instead of only reading about improvements, you can see them through original presentations, photographs, videos and documented project results.

Videos

Short videos that show the atmosphere, the people and the development of the projects.

Project presentations

Original participant presentations covering the problem, the approach, the results achieved and the practical lessons.

Photographs

Images from manufacturing environments, meetings and the people behind the changes.

INSIDE THE BOOK

The big questions behind sustainable change

The five “Why” questions behind Lean Champions.

01

Why does change begin with the person?

Because real change begins when you stop waiting for someone else and take responsibility for what is within your control.

“The machine is not the first to change. The person is.”
02

Why do some changes last while others disappear?

A one-time success is not enough. Real change happens when a new behavior becomes a habit and that habit becomes part of the culture.

“The first change requires effort. The next requires understanding. Sustainable change requires consistency.”
03

Why does the best consultant become less necessary over time?

A true consultant does not create dependency. They build an environment in which people develop the ability to solve problems and continue on their own.

“A consultant’s success is measured not by how indispensable they become, but by how little people eventually depend on them.”
04

Why does community change people?

Development accelerates when people share experience, learn from one another and have a stage on which to show what they have achieved.

“Everyone has potential. Few people have a stage on which to show it.”
05

Why do people give their best?

Genuine motivation does not come from control or fear, but from meaning, recognition and the feeling that what you do matters.

“People do not change because they know more. They change when they find a reason to want to become better.”
BEHIND LEAN CHAMPIONS

Stoyan Neshevski

Stoyan Neshevski

Founder of Lean Champions — a community that helps people and organizations turn improvement into a way of thinking rather than another short-lived initiative.

For more than 20 years, I have been searching for the answer to one question: why do some changes last while others disappear? Lean Champions and this book are the result of that search.

“I do not sell consulting days. I build confidence, courage and meaning.”
TRUST

READER STORIES

What readers say

Real change begins with real stories. Here we share feedback from people who have read the book and chosen to tell us what it meant to them.

An exceptionally valuable book about Lean — clear, practical and inspiring. It does more than present Lean principles; it shows how they can become a way of thinking and a culture of continuous improvement. A book that is definitely worth reading.

Congratulations on a wonderful book. I could not wait to start it and read it in one sitting — an exceptionally engaging and compelling experience. Recognizing part of yourself in the story makes it even more powerful. I am truly grateful to be part of something so meaningful. Your message resonates strongly: change really does not begin with the machine, but with a person’s mindset and actions. Keep creating with the same passion and courage. I am already looking forward to what comes next.

I could not wait to hold the book in my hands, and I am happy to have the first ordered copy, with an inspiring personal message. The book is personal and moving; it shows Stoyan's journey and the lessons he has learned. People come before and after technology. No system can function as an end in itself while leaving people out of the equation. Sometimes we become fixed in our everyday roles. It is good to think of them not as ‘people and roles’, but as ‘people with roles’.

The book does not actually examine the various Lean techniques and tools in depth, nor does it explain how the different participants in Lean Champions 2025 applied them technically, through processes, or organizationally. It does not need to.

We have to acknowledge that, here in Bulgaria, we are still struggling with many prejudices and negative attitudes such as ‘that could never work here’, or the mistaken view that Lean is a mechanical collection of techniques and tools. The author clearly demonstrates how untenable this thinking is. That is why, for me at least, the more valuable part is the reflections, impressions, and conclusions shared about the human side of introducing and using Lean in a Bulgarian context.

The book emphasizes that Lean is part of a culture based not so much on rules as on participation—participation by everyone. It is a culture reached through change that starts with a person's behavior. A person who does not want to stand still, who takes responsibility for acting, even if they do not succeed the first time. A person who needs support, as well as a platform where their efforts can be seen, shared, and explained—acting without a finish line, in small steps but with persistence. In this way, like-minded people can join them, forming small communities and changing their environment. First within the company, and then beyond it. This is also the mission of Lean Champions!

Congratulations on an inspiring book, and best wishes for the initiative!

Exceptionally practical and inspiring. I am glad I had the good fortune to read it. Thank you!

LEAN Champions is a book that shows Lean beyond tools and theory. What I value most is that its ideas are connected to real people, real manufacturing projects, and real results. The book reminds us that sustainable improvement starts not with machines or procedures, but with the way people think, take responsibility, and work together. The content accessible via QR codes complements the book very well, allowing you not only to read about the projects but also to see what has actually been achieved. I recommend it to anyone who wants Lean to be part of their organization's culture, rather than just another initiative.
